I have been doing the Zone for nearly three months now and have lost about 8 pounds and am down to 8% bodyfat.

But I am starving at the end of the day. The morning I am good until lunch and then it starts going downhills until I often have to eat my snack with my Dinner.

Just to give you some background...

I have a LBM of 159 and am at the place where I can do most of the WOD as rx'd except Overhead squats and handstand pushups. I can back squat 265 and DL 285 and do somewhere around 12-15 strict pullups in a row. I can do 15-20 ring dips and can do muscleups though I haven't tried for repititions. I have been doing crossfit since about July 15th of this year. I can run about a 6:15 mile, though I haven't tested myself officially.

I have been using the .7 protein factor when figuring my blocks and have done 3x my fat so that I am eating 10 blocks of fat 5 times a day and eating three 4 block meals and two 2 block meals.

Can someone help me out here. I love this diet and feel great in the morning but as the day goes on I get hungrier and hungrier.

Thanks.

Sure.

Breakfast
8 egg whites
10 oz (equals 4: 1/3 cup)cooked steel cut oats
1 whole avocado or 3.4 oz of guacamole

Lunch

6 ounces turkey lunch meat
1 apple
1 cup of strawberries
1/2 cup of raspberries
(all fruit weighed out except the apple)
30 almonds

Snack:
Zone Protein Bar
18 almonds

Dinner:
6 oz of Salmon
10 oz cooked steel cut oats
30 cashews

Snack:
2 oz of chicken
1 whole apple
30 almonds or 1 avocado

I was surfing frequently but only been out once in the past month. Now I've cut my heel and have to wait another week for it to heel before I can get back in the water.

Thanks for your help

Richard it looks like you are getting plenty of food the only things I could recommend you trying to help with the hunger is maybe finding a different carb source from veggies in stead of the oats. you could also try Three five block meals and a one block snack.are you getting plenty of water? how is your sleep?

I drink at least 64 ounces a day and I get about 6-8 hours of sleep. I have 3 kids 7 and under so it is rare that one of them isn't having some need in the middle of the night.

You have almost no animal fat in your diet. My suggestion is to experiment with adding some saturated fat to your meals. Eat those egg yolks, they are more good for you than bad.

I think that Native Americans called what you are feeling "rabbit starvation."

I was looking at the Crossfit Journal #21 and it shows that a medium male should have 17 blocks. So should I at 173.5 and 159lbm be doing 17 blocks. And should I continue to use the .7 as my factor even as I get stronger and therefore more capable to complete the WODs as rx'd in a competitive time?

Ben,

Do you recommend eating just 4 eggs as opposed to the 8 egg whites?

Or, eat two eggs and 4 egg whites. Also, you might be able to bump up to .8 without much trouble, though I would try upping your fat to 4 or 5x before you do that. What is your daily activity like? Just crossfit, or do you do some other sports/activities?
