Snatch

Finally been able to put in some work on snatch, have had very little coaching on it. Working with 65lbs in this vid and haven't been able to try much more than that. Please let me know what you think. I am more than open to suggestions/advice/criticism!

Re: Snatch

The bottom part of you is missing in the vid!!
your back is not straight and tight when you get set - do that but keep the chest up. and your butt/hips shouldnt shoot up while your arms are NOT moving - they move in sync. I think if you fix that more weight is easy for you.

(once in a while I do that, lift hips - and my coach says 'hmmm... what lift is THAT you're doing?" I may name it. The back fly? the trap fling? gotta make it a good one!)

Re: Snatch

You are raising your butt way to early. When you set up at the bottom keep chest up and your shins vertical. Then as one movement begin to rise with your legs and chest until you clear your knees with the bar.

Also the bar is coming out in front of you after you hit the pocket. What is your PR? That weight looks pretty light so you can get away with it.

Re: Snatch

Thanks Deb and Adam! And sorry yeah it was tough with the video I felt like to get the top part I would have to sacrifice the bottom, but when I take another video in the future I'll fix that. Also, as far as my back, I feel like because of my height, it's pretty difficult to get in a tight position for snatch. Any suggestions? And thank you Adam I'll definitely keep all that in mind from now on. The most I've tried is 75lbs but it felt ugly. Yeah it's not that heavy but I don't feel like I'm in a very strong position when I receive it up top.

Re: Snatch

I feel your pain; im the 2nd tallest one in my gym. Think about sticking your CHEST out at the bottom (your back will have to tighten). Your knees touch your elbows, you bring the bar in toward you w/your lats as you lift off.

Re: Snatch

Everything is great advice, except for the shins vertical at set-up!! Your shins should be angled forward, knees out over the toes at set-up. Knees should actually be just forward of your arms/elbows.
