Wife has trouble kipping, ideas and tips.

Okay, so my wife is having trouble with her kips. She has been back and forth from jumping pull-ups on plyo boxes to band assisted and she has been able to do kips on her own before. The problem is she hasn't been able to get much more than the top of her head to the bar and she has issues with her grip. She can get the swing and the kipping movement fine she just cant get that final jump up to get over the bar. She has gotten very strong in the last 5 months she has been crossfitting. Any ideas? Exercises and/or tips to help?

Work the grip issue.
It's huge.
If the brain does not sense the security and reassurance of a strong and secure grip it is generally unwilling to signal to the body to commit all of it's resources to the move being performed. You see this in any grip-dependent move like pullups or deadlifts.

Strengthen grip first, amplify the message of 'security' to your brain with chalk, and you'll see success.
Blair Robert Lowe mentioned some valuable grip strengthening progressions on the bar last week on this Exercise forum, look down the page a bit, i think it was Francisco Varela's Question on Pullups, or similar

I'd work on getting her a dead hang pullup before you worry about that stuff. Work on the grip strength and keep having her do band pullups. If jumping pull ups are being used for strength and not metcon, have her try to use as little of a jump as possible. Negatives on the pull up bar, static holds on the pull up bar, ring rows and inverted rows will all improve her pulling power. Good luck!
