Jessica's 'Let's Get Fit for Rugby' Log

Hello Crossfitters,

After months of being intimidated by the idea of Crossfit, I took some time to pore over this website and discovered (as you all already know) that Crossfit can be done by everyone if adjusted properly.

I started yesterday and I'm going to keep this log to keep myself on track. Any comments, critiques, and suggestions are encouraged!

I'm 23 y/o, female, and my main goal is to improve as a rugby player. I've played for 5 years without paying proper attention to my fitness and nutrition. Obviously, I also want to generally improve my health as well. I'm making some of my teammates participate with me when I can catch them.

I'm starting us off slowly to avoid injury and because we are unfamiliar with many of the exercises. I'm confident that I will be able to find proper substitutions when necessary.

May 5, 2009

Started with "Official CF Warmup"
Substituted 'Good Mornings' for back extensions
Assisted Pullups

We couldn't figure out the positioning for front squats, so we subbed regular back squats. I will be working on this for the future though. We don't have a squat rack in our gym so we had to turn to the Smith Machine for heavier weight.

3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3

Ended with bar + 120 lbs on Smith Machine.

Good job on the log! I'm a fellow rugger as well. There's a ton of ruggers and former ruggers on these boards that love to help out. I know they've helped me. Good luck!

What position do you play?

Re: Jessica's 'Let's Get Fit for Rugby' Log

Hi Jason! I've seen some mentions of rugby around the forum and I'm looking forward to all the help I can get.

I have played mainly prop over the past five years, though sometimes I moonlight as a hooker, flanker, or even a wing on occasion. Playing wing is an extreme occasion

Where do you play?

Well when you're 6'4" and 258 pounds and not really fast and can't kick you kind of get typecast into one position!

That's fine by me though. I can work on the skills related to that position.
