No local affiliate

As you can see in my title, I have no local affiliate, the closest is about an hour and a half away and I can't afford that with gas prices as they are, so I only dabble in CF when I can do the workouts. I found out recently that a longtime friend of my girlfriend's family lives in my area and he is actually a trainer and knows all the oly lifts that I am clueless on. Would it be wise for me to go and talk to him about it or just do something like Eva T's BW stuff until I can get to an affiliate?
