Kettlebell Rust

I left one of my KBs in the back of my truck(covered, and carpeted), but it rolled around and into my metal parallettes enough to chip the paint on the handle. This has now turned to a rust problem.

What is the best way to fix it. Sandpaper, steel wool, disc? Whats the best paint/coating to replace the original.

It is a DD if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help.

Andy
I found that a wire brush and a can of spray paint does the job (if you can find the paint that stops future rust thats they way to go)
