2008 CRASH-B Sprints

Crossfit NYC is thinking of sending a few athletes to the CRASH-B's - aka the indoor rowing World Championships - on Feb 24th, in Boston.

wfs: http://www.crash-b.org/regist.htm

We don't plan to break any world records but it should be fun, and a 2000m row is a nice crossfitesque effort, IMO.

Any other affiliates or Crossfitters up to the challenge?

I'm recruiting a few for Pittsburgh's on 2 Feb. I'm not exactly ready for this, but like you said, it should be fun.

CRASH-B's is a lot of fun. You will get to see some beasts go for 2000m under 6 min. Even more impressive, if you ask me are the 160lb lightweights going under 6:10.

Enjoy!

Quick reminder: the registration deadline is Feb 10 for the CRASH B's. Hope to see some other crossfitters there!

Re: 2008 CRASH-B Sprints

Did the Mile High Sprints today. Am a long way off from the CRASH Bs.

6:40.6 in the 2k
127.2 in the 500m

First in my age group for both. Hopefully I can get some coaching and make it to Boston next year or the year after.

Re: 2008 CRASH-B Sprints

Ryan, those are great times!

You know, you don't need to "qualify" to go to the CRASH B's, unless you want Concept 2 to sponsor you. True, the field is top-heavy with national team members from both sides of the Atlantic, but take a look at the results: (wfs) http://www.crash-b.org/results.htm I don't think you would feel out of place at all.

People should be rushing to events like this: what better way to promote Crossfit as a non-specific training programme that yields great results?

Re: 2008 CRASH-B Sprints

Ewen, thank you very much. I know I don't need to qualify to go, but I'm afraid my bank account doesn't quite qualify to get me on board any kind of plane. I'm hoping to improve and make it on skill and practice next year. I have a lot of improvement to make, escpecially in flexibility in the catch. I need to use my length more.

Re: 2008 CRASH-B Sprints

CF Alexandria sent a group of folks to the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints last weekend. I believe that, aside from when it comes up in a WOD, most of us are largely novices on the erg. That being said, and with unfamiliarity as to what is a "good" rowing time, I think the CrossFit approach prepared us fairly well for the event. With a little more actual concentration on the erg itself and some form work for most of us, I think the time would come down even more. Point being, following a general CF workout scheme will give you plenty of strength and stamina to not make a fool of yourself at a 2000m row if you haven't actually competed in crew before.

2000m:
6:45, T. Cary, Men's 50-54
6:47, Coed Relay Team 1
7:02, D. Wright, Men's 40-49
7:11, Coed Relay Team 2
7:14, R. Hoar, Open Men's LW
7:34, T. Busch, Men's 30-39
7:45, M. Kosak, Men's 30-39
7:47, M. Cromwell, Women's Open
7:53, T. Flynn, Men's 30-39
8:29, D. Banket, Women's 30-39
8:53, K. McNamara, Women's 40-49
8:54, C. Nielson, Open Women's LW
8:54, R. Freedman, Open Women's LW
9:11, C. Redon, Women's 30-39
9:31, M. Schoop, Women's Open
9:43, V. Wheeler, Women's 30-39

500m:
1:30, R. Nielson, Men's Open

Re: 2008 CRASH-B Sprints

Rob: 7:04.9
EvaClaire: 7:11.2 (first in her heat and 24th overall in the Open Women category)
Ewen: 6:37.0

PRs and fun had by all.

"We do your stuff nearly as well as you do, etc."

Hats off to Rob and EC for having the courage to put that famous quote to the test.

Results are available here: http://www.crash-b.org/results.htm
Funny little race animations here: http://www.concept2.com/us/training/...eplays2008.asp (Race 28 Row C for Rob, Race 27 row A for EC and Race 29 row C for me)
Official video of EC's race here: http://www.concept2.com/us/training/...08.asp?race=27
