Sugar in Coffee

I am on the Zone diet. Now I try to avoid sugar as much as possible. I avoid all food containing possessed sugar and even purchased myself Stevia. I love my coffee and need it, it's almost like family time when the coffee goes up. Now I was just wondering if putting a little sugar in my coffee is such a big deal. If it was I'm sure I can cut it out. I am trying to ween myself off of it but want to know if it's severely crippling my diet. If it was I would drop it in a heartbeat. Does any one have any suggestions for cutting off my sugar usage?

Re: Sugar in Coffee

I wouldn't say a little sugar in your coffee is going to kill you/seriously impede your progress in and of itself, but it makes it a lot harder to avoid all those other foods, like a big plate of cookies.

In my case, I found that I cheat much more readily if I have something like sugar frequently. Having it in my food brings out the cravings that I try and suppress, while if I don't have any sugar for a while, it looses a lot of its appeal to me, and is thus easier to avoid.

Re: Sugar in Coffee

I cut sugar from my coffee in exchange for heavy cream (18%) the way i justify that is if milk is 1 block each carb/prot, then the extra fat of the 18% has got to bring the fat up to at least an equal block share or better... therefore 18% coffee cream is friendly in my head. (and nobody better tell me otherwise!)
