I just picked up a copy of "The Public Relations Kit for Dummies", and it is loaded with info. on how to promote your business without spending a fortune.
I got my used copy at Alibris Books for about $5!
It's worth looking into.

Also get a copy of Guerrilla Marketing.

Actually, go to your McBookstore and read it there. Good stuff, but you can get the meat of it skimming it over some coffee.

We are all willing to help. There are some real issues to consider though that go beyond "selling out".

Whether you mean to or not, it can be easy to meet the legal definition of Franchise. This varies from state to state - California has some very tough laws on franchises. We could be in for a nasty surprise indeed if an Attorney Generals office from one of our states, or the IRS decides that we meet the definition of franchise. All of us need to know what "franchise" means in your state and make decisions accordingly.

The same discussion applies to the subject of trainers. Independant contractors and employees both have advantages and disadvantages. Each affiliate needs to decide carefully. The IRS has very specific rules about what constitutes an employee, if you are found in violation of those rules you may be looking at YEARS of back tax obligations as well as penalties.

Ultimately it takes years of hard work to establish a thriving business in a given location, and although we will continue to help each other, we each have to make our own name in our market.

As a start, taking good care of your customers will give the best marketing you can get. In almost 4 years of running a Crossfit gym, word of mouth advertising has been by far the most effective for us.
