Supraspinatus Tendinosis and Labrum Tear

I just received MRI results after shoulder pain issues started in late November. The results indicate:
Supraspinatus tendinosis w/o a RC tear
Small tear of the anterior-inferior glenoid labrum (I tore it back in '94; this is the first time I've had problems since then)
Mild acromioclavicular arthrosis
Everything else was normal

The ortho doc recommended physical therapy and referred me to their physical therapy director; he gave me shoulder warm-up and rotator cuff strengthening exercises. The PT person also indicated pulling exercises were fine but to avoid pressing exercises during the six weeks of recommended physical therapy.

Are there any other activities or exercises I should avoid/ include to maximize the speed of healing and return to full function? I've read Steven Low's article on tendinitis on the Eat Move Improve website and a host of other websites dealing with rotator cuffs and injuries.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Kipping pullups and SDHPs probably won't help your recovery.

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinosis and Labrum Tear

Be careful where you get your info on here. DON'T listen to what may have worked for someone. Everyone is different.

Listen to the people that work within the rehab field, not the patient.

So far, it sounds like your PT has you on the right track. We just rehabbed a guy with torn labrum, torn supraspinatus, and biceps tendon. In 4 months he's back to full ROM and minimal pain. Included in rehab were deadlifts, farmers walks, KBS once I felt he was ready to move onto those movements.

Biggest piece of advice....Be patient!

Talk to your PT!

Generally speaking, you'll want to avoid exercises that hurt as well

Thank you for the replies. I forgot to mention in my original post that the PT and I did discuss avoiding exercises that hurt. I'm working my way back slowly so as to avoid delaying the healing process or to doing any more damage.

Something to think about might be the Ido Portal Theraband series. You can find other theraband work on youtube probably as well. In general, it's light work but it doesn't have to be (not that you should do that for now anyways).

Re: Supraspinatus Tendinosis and Labrum Tear

Thanks. I looked them up; everything I've found is consistent with the exercises my PT gave me to do.
