Re: What's so dumb about curls?

I don't think they are dumb but do become dumb when they are done every single day. some guys think that doing bicp curls every day and getting big biceps makes them stronger when in fact there is more to working out than just one's biceps. As long as you understand that there is nothing wrong with throwing in some bicp curls from time to time

Re: What's so dumb about curls?

Some interesting perspectives here. I guess not everybody has that viewpoint I thought I was seeing alot.

I personaly throw in supplementary curls with a curling barbell, and maybe individual dumbell hammer curls. But yeah, I see the point about it being dumb to do 50 different types of curls.

Re: What's so dumb about curls?

I was just reading an article by a strongman (or power lifter, I forget) competitor discussing the place of curls in training and that they have their place. He suggested 2 different excersizes, 2-3 sets each, say barbell and hammer with twisting.

that's really what it is.

curls and bench and all that stuff we make fun of has it's place, but the public misuses them. How often do you see people doing their "3-day split" like this:

chest/triceps day:
bench press
incline bench
dumbell bench
flys
incline flys
tricep extension
skull crushers

back/biceps day:
barbell row
lat row on some machine
barbell curl
1-arm curl
hammer curl
21 curl
preacher curl

legs/shoulders day:
legs day sucks. And anyway, it's friday... I'm going out tonight.

Basically, just do them if they're in line with your goals.
Oh, I'm not saying they're more functional than deadlifts or squats. All I meant was that if one had to argue that they were, you could come up with plenty of reasons

A friend of mine ran into Pudjonowski twice training in Callifornia - and guess what he was doing both times? Cheat curls lol

Weighted chinups are better for 90% of people who lift. For curls to be effective, you have to have a good strength base. Once you do, they work wonders for the biceps. But most people don't realize this

Like I said, if Marius does them, there's no need to be embarrassed as a strongman!
