Re: Video: Mike Boyle teaches an awkward hang snatch

As a general rule, CFers don't have the best O-lifts from what I've seen... but some of these are downright hideous (the clean pulls were okay... if you take out the words "clean pull" and replace them with "jump shrug"- that was 265+ pounds on the bar). The hang clean videos from Mike Boyle, though, were just... wow. The donkey kick, the arm pull, the hip swinging into the bar at the start like they're trying to hip check the bar into position... I'm gonna stop watching and read a chapter or two from Everett's book just to feel... clean.

Re: Video: Mike Boyle teaches an awkward hang snatch

I wanna start out by saying I love Crossfit. It is my training program and I use it as the training program for all the mixed martial artists I work with.

With that said, I also need to say how funny it is that people on this forum dog on someone like Boyle who in all regards is at the top of the food chain in the strength and conditioning industry. Last time I checked anyone with $1000 could be "Crossfit Certified". Lets get serious its not exactly an elite group.

I understand people questioning his philosophies on various things, as I have done the same. But to say he isn't a good coach is plain ridiculous. He has been everywhere, trained pretty much everyone and backed it with research.

As for the form in the video has it occurred to anyone that the form for something as complex as a snatch is a constant working progress. No ones Olympic lifts are perfect until you get to the elite level, especially not collegiate level football players!

Well, seeing as Mike Boyle's major complaint with CrossFit is that it encourages bad form on the Olympic lifts, it's like the pot calling the kettle black.

A work in progress, sure. But when it's done on a demonstration video, it's obligatory to point out what's wrong, not just gloss over it like it's the right way to do it.
