Re: Video: Mike Boyle teaches an awkward hang snatch

Some more examples of Mike Boyle's "interesting" interpretations of the Olympic lifts...

Re: Video: Mike Boyle teaches an awkward hang snatch

Clean-grip snatches are a perfectly valid exercise, I suppose.

Mike Boyle is a specialized coach for one of the most highly specialized contests known to man - the NFL combine, a once-a-year, once-in-a-lifetime contest for a select few. As such, I don't think he has too much to offer for a generalized program like Crossfit.

The entertaining aspect is that just by surfing through different CrossFit affiliates nationwide then comparing them to these premiere D1 programs... CrossFit trainers could reteach the Strength & Conditioning coaches.

Black kid in the second video, "Tennessee Basketball Push Jerk" is doing a BTN push press with two spotters and a Manta Ray...sweet dear Lord.

Just finished watching it. Yeah, he's clearly describing (poorly) a BTN push press. What's with the f***ing Manta Ray, seriously?

"You're using more weight than you're able to overhead press, so bringing it down on your own is kinda dangerous..."

Bull$#!%! I've lowered 135% of my best press to my back and I'm fine. This is especially laughable because it looks like 135# that they're "push jerking".

Exactly what I was thinking.

When you bring down something that's more than you can press, just dip a little and use your hips to catch it. Or since you're using bumper plates you could just dump it. Spotters on Oly lifts are funny.

And the LSU coach actually said "when you got mass times acceleration, you get power." Of course the Olympic lifts generate power because t approaches 0, but who taught him that formula?

Bring it down Jamie. Breathe in, breathe out. Easy does it.
