Ring support pain/dip question

I got my rings recently and I have been practicing dips a lot, but I find that whenever I end a set, my shoulders get some pain momentarily when getting off the rings. This pain does not occur while I am in the support, only when I leave it from either full extension or near the bottom of the dip.

Also, is there any danger of excessive ROM in dips? Can I go as far as shoulder flexibility allows or is there a definite point I should stop?

Go as as your flexibility allows, without pain. There is not set stopping point in the bottom of a dip. You want to be able to go well below parallel with good form, much like the bottom of a squat.

I sometimes get the pain you are talking about on dismount. For me, it is caused by not being warmed up, or by a fast dismount (hopping off the rings). The sudden removal of the load from the shoulders, while the muscles are still contracted, seems to be what causes it for me. Try coming down off the rings more slowly, that is, shifting the weight from your shoulders to your feet more slowly.
