A few days ago while practicing kicks I felt a sharp pain right between the bottom of my glute and the top of my hamstring in my right leg. Now whenever I do something that requires pushing with my glute (rowing, squats with any significant weight, elliptical trainer at a high resistance) it hurts quite a bit. What's going on? Did I pull something? What should I do? Can I keep doing squats at a light weight or should I lay off the leg altogether?

I'm still hoping someone can give me advice. The pain was much more intense today, hurting even when walking. Should I be stretching? Leaving this alone? It seems to be the very top of the hamstring where it connects somewhere between the groin and glute muscle. Thank you!

Hi Emily,

Sounds like a pulled hamstring to me. As a general rule intense/sharp pain is something that I would rest and seek advice from a sports physiotherapist or sports doctor as soon as practical.
