muscle beach guy

" Zinkin became the first Mr. California in 1941. In 1945, he won the national AAU weightlifting championship, light heavyweight division, and went on to invent the Universal Gym Machine"

what a juxtaposition, a contradiction of terms

Actaully, body building contest used to have a skill section. A number of them did the O-Lifts.

Re: muscle beach guy

Also of note, back back back in time, weightlifters, powerlifters, strongmen and bodybuilders all trained together.. Also, there are plenty of bodybuilders who compete (and win) powerlifting contests, I guess weightlifting is a little more rare these days, but same concept, I guess.. I'm sure weightlifting was more popular than powerlifting the farther back you go anyway.

If I lived in santa monica and wanted to spend my day just working out at the beach.. I would invent something too.

I am not knocking him either.

Above all. There is no irony. The man just took something that he believed that would better the world and support him in his lifestyle.

Have you been to muscle beach ?
Imagine wreck beach on the hottest day of the summer, but its day in .. day out. And you there .. day in day.. every day, and all you do is .. hang out, workout .. people watch, flirt .. laugh.. have a good time. Would you want to get a job and lose all that or would you find something else to that is going to let you keep on staying there???

That universal machine.. was responsible for making the bodies of alot men and pro athletes in its day. Ask anyone over the age of 35.. I bet alot of them did their first bench press on there. Every high school had one, every ymca had one. That guy made NOT A BOATLOAD of money but SUPERTANKER LOADS OF MONEY.

He believed in what he was doing was the for the greater good. I suspect that coach glassman knows that feeling as well.

I thank the "Universal Machine" in my high school gym (P.E. class) with helping get me a prom date; circa 1978. I'll give credit where credit is due

I thank it for the gash on my chin a few years ago when I lost control of a tricep pressdown. Chicks dig scars.
