How to hang rings in this space

I teach physical education and am looking for a way to hang gymnastics rings in the space shown. I'm not sure if there is a way to put an overhanging bracket from the wall or if I will have to go from the rafters (not ideal). Any thoughts?

Re: How to hang rings in this space

Well, you could install something like this on the wall:

Only ~32" away from the wall, not sure if you'll have enough room to do aggressive kipping but enough room for more strict movements.

Also, you could run pipe between the trusses at the top at the points where the downward metal intersects with the bottom beam (the upside down triangle tip). This will help to spread the load over multiple trusses. You would need to secure the pipe from moving side to side - some type of clamp could work or strap/webbing to tie it down. I would use big fat pipe just to play it safe depending on the span. Like 2" diameter schedule 80. Should be plenty strong.

I can't tell from the photo but is there space between the very top of the truss and the ceiling? Ideally you loop over that but that may not be possible.

Go for the rafters, but talk with someone about loads. Lots of gyms do that, but often use a chain for most of the distance and then a locking carabiner or metal ring so the hight can still be adjusted.

I went to a cf competition where the rings were prolly that high on straps on the rafters it works the swing is just a little different depending on different strap lengths

Re: How to hang rings in this space

The reason I suggested the pipe across the rafters is to reduce the stress placed in a direction those trusses weren't really designed for. Now granted the load isn't going to be much but if you can spread it out over two rafters that will be much better.

Go to strapworks.com (wfs) and order these-Metal Cam Straps w/ 2 inch Heavyweight Polypropylene. This is what I use to hang ours from a 25ft ceiling. I took remnant pieces of carpet and put them under the straps over the rafters. Too easy.

Is that for a high school? Do you worry about the rings being a serious liability? You can't supervise them ALL of the time...

Also, keep in mind that gymnastics movements become increasingly more difficult as the strap length increases.

If you do it, definitely spread the load of several trusses.
