Neew Vibrams!

Well i finally got on the bandwagon and got a pair of Five Fingers. I got the Bakila model. So far they are SUPER comfortable. Other than taking a little bit to get used to while putting them on I have no complaints.

I'm about to go on my first run with them. Only going to go for a mile, to break them and my feet in lol.

Anyone have any recomendations on working them in for the WOD's? Should I start off using them? Or give my feet more time to get used to them? So far my feel are really taking well to them, I just don't want to over do it.

Re: Neew Vibrams!

Steve, I wouldn't do a lot of running in them at first. I ramped up slowly with mine. First just 400 m runs, then 800s and then full miles. On some running forums there is discussion of stress fractures from too much too soon. So just give your feet, ankles and calves time to strengthen before doing much distance. I love my Bikilas. I don't wear them for lifting though-I have weightlifting shoes for that.

Re: Neew Vibrams!

I went for a 1.5 mile run first time out when I just got my KSO's...before I truly learned how to run POSE. Burnt out my calf muscles and was out of commission for a week.

Take it SLOW. Slower than you think you should. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Neew Vibrams!

Did a bit of searching on what POSE running is. A brief search it was, but I picked up a few pointers. I only ran around my block (about 1/3 of a mile) and allready feel it. But it's a good feeling. I feel better than when I run with normal shoes. These things are AWESOME!!!!

Re: Neew Vibrams!

I'm still loving these things!!!

We have a wod today that consists of several rounds of box jumps and a 250meter run.

I wore them all day yesterday and my feet were a good bit sore, but not too bad.

Let's see if I am singing the same toon tonight after the WOW.

Re: Neew Vibrams!

I just bought my first pair this weekend too, they are the Bikila model. Tonight I plan to do Fight Gone Bad at my box, and I think that should be fine since there's no running involved. Going to break my legs/feet in slowly indoors while it's still cold and hopefully by spring I'll be ready for some running!

Re: Neew Vibrams!

Well the first WOD with the Vibrams was a great success.

It was:

21 Front Squats 135lbs
Run 250m
18 Box Jumps 24"
Run 250m
15 Front Squats
Run 250m
12 Box Jumps
Run 250m
9 Front Squats
Run 250m
6 Box Jumps
Run 250m
3 Front Squats

The runs were surprisingly easier. I feel like I'm gliding almost, while doing the POSE type of running. Sometimes I found myself hitting with my heel first. As someone said earlier, it is an error that is corrected very fast.

Oh and I RX'd the WOD!!!!!!!!!

Thankfully I've been finding myself RXing alot more wod's lately. I may not have the best times in the world, this one was 21:35, but I am doing the prescribed weight, and it's not that far from the rest of the folks.

Re: Neew Vibrams!

I worked out and ran a bit completely barefoot for a couple months before I transitioned to the KSO's. The longest I ran was a 1 1/2 miles. I've noticed my shin muscles are a lot stronger, where there were shin splints before. I now own KSO's, Treksports, and Sprints!
