Re: Starting over with Starting Strength

Hey Patrick,

Cool metcon!

Metcon
3 rounds for time:
Tire flip length of driveway and back*
Jump through 18" tall tire ?????
10 GHD situps on tire at each end of driveway
(*15 flips per round)

Okay. Doing this metcon looks serious enough. Crawling/jumping thru an 18" tall tire? ..........a contortion metcon!

Awesome!

So much for clarity. The sequence was to flip the tire, jump into the middle of it, jump out the other side, run back around it to flip it again. The metcon was based on a pmenu video that John saw (and made the mistake of mentioning to me a while back). I liked it. I may do it again next week to see if I can't push harder. John was absolutely pushing to the limit. He started out a minute behind me after the first round, caught up in the second round, and was half a minute ahead halfway through the last round, but the metcon devil laid him out. It was inspiring. Now that I've got a sense of the workout, I want to give it as faithful an effort.

That's pretty much what I got out of it, I think I might have seen the same video. Nice metcon, that makes me want to play with the tire sometime this week.

Oh well..........clarity can sometimes elude me............never occurred to me one could jump INTO the center of the tire while it was on the ground. Duh! Don't get old, the mind is the first thing to go (if your knees and hamstrings don't go first), and I can't remember the next..........

Still a great WO!

Recovery log

Yesterday's workout was a nice loading. I felt good and tired afterwards without being smashed (for long), and I got in some much needed skill work on the 3rd pull of my clean.

Got in my second good night in a row of foam rolling. I've got some sore upper quads right now. Will be hitting them twice a day in hopes of having them thoroughly recovered by DbFS.

7 hours sleep with 8 resting in bed.

Got my protein up with a nice ribeye steak yesterday, plus leftover tilapia, and my usual breakfast/snack fare.

Calories 3,044
Fat 178g
Cholesterol 1,060mg
Sodium 1,657mg
Carbs 128g
Sugars 102g
Fiber 18g
Protein 237g

That's 52/31/17% fat/protein/carbs - best I've done in a long time. That plus a rest day today should do wonders for rebuilding some well worked muscles.

Nice job on the tire flipping, jumping metcon. When do you plan to do DbBWFS? I keep checking back to see if you did it.

Tuesday night. I'll probably hit it again toward the end of the month, using it as a front squat density training day.

Yeah, there's something about strongman work, where you move things that are somewhat awkward that really adds an element of fun to the mix. The neighbor I'm training is making me a sandbag in exchange for my help. If I don't have that for my fun lifting random shiz day next weekend, I'll either do this or find a new way to play with tires. (I've been meaning to see how it feels to pull a semi tire across the ground with a rope.)
