I'm focusing on Olympic lifting and I bench basically once a weak.

I had shoulder issues for 20 years until I got them straightened out after finding CrossFit. As a result my bench was very under developed. In my case I believe benching is beneficial to my over all strength and structural strength around the shoulders.

Be careful of blanket statements like "benching is bad" or "benching is good". Each individual needs to be assessed and weak areas worked on to create a well balanced human.
