Website Help.1

First, thanks to Zeke from CrossFit Coastal for helping me get the site up and running (which would have been impossible otherwise). I'm having some issues with IE v. Firefox though and all the Wordpress Forum info seems to say "just live with it", which I can't do. I'm at www.potomaccrossfit.com and using Wordpress 2.3.3. My questions are:

1. In Firefox, the top post shows up aligned center, but all other posts wrap around the side bar and go all the way to the left. It's centered in IE though.

2. Also, the videos that I embed in the posts will show up in Firefox, but not in IE. I just get a blank box with the X.

3. In both versions, I can't place text below the pictures or video unless I make the pic/video large enough that it takes up the whole horizontal space and "pushes" the text below it. If I just put a thumbnail in there, then the text will always align just to the right of the picture instead of below.

Any assistance will be repaid with beer and/or poorly thought out puns.

Re: Website Help.1

Do you understand the basics of CSS? If I tell you where to make edits to the stylesheet, can you do that?

Re: Website Help.1

Alex, you can post the edits on the forums. I'll go in and change the CSS.

Also, what type of videos are you trying to embed? I can go in and make it so you can show youtube videos. I suggest using YouTube for two reasons - people are familiar with it and it's very easy for them to "tell a friend" or forward it to someone else.

I'm pretty sure I added YouTube functionality to the site, so in your post - under "code" just type in <video>videoID</video> If I didn't, give me a call. I'm free today and can set that up in a couple minutes.

Re: Website Help.1

3. is the easiest. The images are set to float left inside the posts. comment out the float rule and they will default to "block" behavior and push the text down below the image.

2. May be IE behavior related to the EOLAS patent dispute. But I'm on a Mac and don't see that problem.

1. The wrapping thing in FF is weird. My first instinct was that the content div was closed prematurely. But it seems to be something about the left margin not being applied correctly. I haven't had time to ferret out what's happening there. I'll take another look tonight and see if I can figure it out.

Cheers, Alex

Alex, I don't know CSS, but you can still post it and if Zeke doesn't have time i'll give it a try. Zeke - if you can do that let me know, otherwise I'll probably try it and mess it up.

I am using YouTube videos, and I double checked that the address itself was right (it is) by opening a seperate window and copying and pasting that portion. So the link is still active. All I did on that was copy the "embed" code and paste it within the code section of the post.

Thanks much for the help guys.

Brian

Re: Website Help.1

Don't copy the embed code. In the "code" tab of your post type in <video>videoID</video>

VideoID is the last partof the url so example=

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpntYFfVoQU

videoID=PpntYFfVoQU

Re: Website Help.1

I just tried that, I took out all the embed stuff and just put

<video>2XEI2InseCg</video>

That didn't work, for some reason whenever I hit save it would kick it out to

<video></video>2XEI2InseCg

So I tried the whole url:

<video>http://www.youtube.com/v/2XEI2InseCg&amp;hl=en</video>

And it did the same thing

<video></video>http://www.youtube.com/v/2XEI2InseCg&amp;hl=en

Re: Website Help.1

Well, I didn't change any of the code but issue #1 just went away on both FF and IE.

However, now I can't get YouTube videos to show up on IE but they do on FF.

I hate the internets.
