Went to play in the park today with my 6 1/2 year old. These pictures of him climbing and jumping out of trees are partly thanks to Kid's CrossFit at Brand X. He used some of the climbing skills he learned at their kid's climb day. His fear of heights is fading. As his mother this both thrills me and frightens me to death. Parkour anyone? Jesse Woody...look for him at your CF seminar gigs sometime in the next 5-10 years. Probably under a psuedonym so my mother doesn't kick my butt.

Great pictures reminds me of childhood allot, haha actually reminds me of last thursday too, wait I climbed a tree today(bird watching), tree climbing is great training at any age. I see so many kids whose parents stop them from doing this kind of natural play, but play is our evolved mechanism for children to develop into health strong adults, and that includes climbing tree's wrestling and running however much people might want to keep children safe in bubbles. I have started doing obstacle courses classes at the gym I teach for and its incredible to see the response from the kids, they will absolutely exhaust themselves running through the courses time after time it so much fun to see little 4 year olds wall passing up vault table trainers and doing perfect rolls on the jump down. Sorry for the rant just a personal passion. I just have to salute you as parent who gets it and encourages their kid to play they way nature meant them too.

Laura, Great photos!
Here is a photo that we took yesterday at the end of our monthly medal WOD. I laughed when I saw the photo and realised that in the background was my daughter sitting in the tree. She is almost thirteen and still escapes up any tree she can. http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/3499/37949.jpg |

Playing in the park with the kids is probably one of the simplest and greatest pleasures in life!
We spent the day yesterday at the beach. My kids were running, cartwheeling and doing round offs on the sand the entire time. That is up until my son decided that it was time to go swimming and spent the next 30 minutes swimming in the surf. We were at my bosses place on the ocean and his 9 year old daughter was there and she is a phenomenal gymnast. She worked with jr on his straddle press to a handstand and he almost got it! I should have taken a picture as his last attempt he lost it and he fell on his face and got a nice little bruise on his forhead. I explained to him that this is how it normally went for me, trying to impress a pretty girl and than falling on your face ;). Enjoy those times with your kids and let them play! |

Laura; great pics. Too bad they don't seem to have any rope trees for kids to play on anymore. Just image, if you had snow, your son could jump off the balcony into snow banks. Wouldn't that do your heart some good
