So yeah, I am rooting for deadlifts and HSPU. What weights would you think?
If the weights ladder up, then I'd like to see them go something like this:

F/M
185/275
225/315
255/365
285/405
315/455
365/505

12 min amrap: 5 reps DL, 10 HSPU or C2B.

Not going to happen for the CF open (I know you want heavy). They want to keep it inclusive and 365+ is not inclusive. I could see this WOD for regionals or the games when they go heavier.
I think it will be 'roid Diane' similar to the Fran last year - Maybe 245, 255DL ladder with HSPU. Maybe even Elizabeth ladder @ 145...

FWIW _
A 365# dead lift for the women is high, but definitely not astronomical. We have 3 women in my box that can do it... and that is why I put it at the top end of the scale, just like the 505# for men.

Think of it as being similar to the Snatch WOD. How many guys can snatch 210#? Not many - but there are a number of them. GETTING THERE was the real issue.

You have swayed me some on this WOD actually happening. Especially after what Castro said about the tier-style WOD happening again in the open.

I think the biggest issue is iron. Most of the garage CF'ers will not have enough iron to get there even if they could pull it. Also, if an affiliate only has bumpers, you can't usually get 505 on the bar with them (depending on the style of bumper).

I'd love to see that wod though!

Yeah - if all you have is hi-temp bumpers, then 495# barely fits - I don't think you can even put clamps on the bars with five 45# hi temp bumpers per side...
so throwing the extra 5#s on each end to make it 505# is an even bigger issue...

Oh well - not my problem!

Froning has two first place finishes, a second and a 34th. That guy is a boss.

I bet Rob Orlando is hoping for something heavy too. He's in 80th place right now, but has been climbing each week after a slow start on 12.1. I hope he can crack into the top 60 to make it to regionals.

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

Deadlift and HSPUs would seem to be the most logical workout. I had the same though independently. That being said, it's difficult to imagine 5 weeks of CrossFit without pull-ups. I also think it's difficult to standardize HSPUs. At the Games and Regionals, the standard was hands-on-bumper plates and head-to-Ab-mat. It would be hard to standardize that in the Open due to differing plate sizes and lack of access to an Ab-mat. Sure, HQ could just call for head-to-floor, but then you run into the issue of athletes placing their hands out very wide. Bottom line is that HSPUs are difficult to standardize/judge.

Keep in mind that there are a few other fundamental CrossFit movements that haven't been tested yet: OHS, thruster, and clean. I could see one of those movements paired with pull-ups in a Fran-type situation. I know that wallball shots tested squatting last week, but squatting is a major component of CrossFit. We'll have to wait and see . . .

I was thinking the same thing this morning. I couldn't imagine the Open would conclude without pull-ups.
