Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

I had a conversation with Jake this morning about the open workouts. I told him, "I hope it's heavy and stupid." I got half my wish.

7 minutes of burpees will suck - no matter what. Especially with the jump and touch req's.
Say what you will, but this is a decent FIRST test of the Open season.

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

Being that I'm in BFE, I'll just do what WODs I can at the small gym I'm at. Probably on a Saturday afternoon when no one is around. If I have to start getting wacky with substitutions, I won't bother. There isn't any rower or rope (I can probably make one to hang off the cable machine) or medball either.

It'll be a decent fit as Saturday is my stupid light BS day. Snatch balance and Heavy Split jerk day primarily and any gymnasticky stuff I want to do followed by conditioning and curls and 1 arm rows or cable work AKA stupid BS.

Nearest affiliate is CoSprings and that is definitely not worth $30 in gas + a drop-in fee+$20 for CF. F that.

Looking forward to the Saturday burpees to seeing how many I can do in 7 minutes. I'm sure it will be hell. Might be kinda funny if someone is around and hopefully no pukey as I'm not sure the owner would appreciate that (though we get along well).

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

Suckfest, I did 50 in 2:27 yesterday. Really don't want to do burpees again, but I'll try it on Sunday and see what happens

Good analysis.

This is a solid WoD #1. Simple, easy to judge, inclusive (I know some of you don't care about inclusivity), tough, and a great test of fitness.

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

Also agree with the above posts. We all knew it would be a 'simple' workout to try and get as many participants as possible, and since burpees are more/less a staple of crossfit, I think it's perfect.

In the video introducing the workout, did anyone notice Castro's sadistic smile when he said 7 minutes of "BURPEES?" I think he enjoyed it a little too much.

Personal goals for the Open: finish in the top 50% in each workout, and right now on Beyond the Whiteboard the mean score is about 90 burpees. So 91 and up I'll be pleased, but shooting for 100.
