flexibility for head kicks

what stretches do you do to get better hip flexibility for head kicks??? I prefer to thro leg and body kicks because they have a better chance of landing, but I like to attempt head kicks sometimes eventhough when I do I usually bust my ***.

When you throw the kick, make sure the heel of your supporting leg is pointed towards your opponent and toes pointed away. Your supporting foot should not be perpendicular to your opponent. This should help unlock your hip.

I don't have anything other than the obvious to recommend about stretching.

The above recommendation relates to side kicks/roundhouses. But don't forget about front kicks to the head. They can be devastating, hard to block and difficult to see coming. One of my favorites.

Perhaps the best thing you can do is throw a lot of them. Bag work.

I agree with Ned. Turn the rear foot outward to open the hips and ease the strain on the kicking leg. You can also lean back to gain a little height. For stretching try to focus on the hamstrings and the adductors. Two of the stretches I tend to do are locking my knees and bending over for the hams and sliding my feet out as far as I can for the adductors. If you can get low enough to touch your hands to the floor but can't quit do the splits try with a sheet of paper under each foot on carpet. Be gentle or you'll get there sooner then you want.

lay on your back with your butt against a wall.. legs will be straight up on the wall... start spreading your legs and let gravity pull them down on each side and hold that position as long as you can. Great way to stretch for higher kicks..

partner stretching will do wonders as well
