UK supplier for non-bounce D-ball

Hi,

I want to get a non-bounce D-ball for my gym to do Slam Ball. Can any UK Crossfitters recommend a supplier? I've searched Google to no avail.

Thanks,

Leyton

I know this doesn't asnwer your question at all, but I just thought I'd input to anyone out there not to just pick up a mates medicine ball and try slams. I did, and got a smack in the jaw for it. Who'd have thought 8kg could bounce so high!!

Cheers Matthew. I had a near miss with a standard medicine ball too.

Re: UK supplier for non-bounce D-ball

you can make your own...

I'm pretty sure there are instructions somewhere in the Crossfit Journal archives or on here.

Get a basketball and puncture it with a small screwdriver.
Force a funnel into the puncture hole and then fill the ball with dry sand.
once you have the ball full, plug the hole with a bike puncture repair kit and loads of 'shoe glue'.
You can then wrap it in Duck tape for extra protection, although, they will hold up quite well without.

Oh yeah, I just checked and you can get them from Strength Power Speed too

http://www.strengthpowerspeed.co.uk/HTML/dynamax.htm (WFS)

although, the dynamax balls arn't so good for ball slams which I just realised was what you wanted them for

Re: UK supplier for non-bounce D-ball

Dynamax aren't ideal for ball slams. In fact, Jim from Dynamax recently removed the 3 year guarantee because he got a couple of balls back from CrossFitters who were slamming them and managed to open the seams.

I am about to import Garage gym balls, which might (subject to testing them) be more suitable for slams than the Dynamax. The Dynamax's selling point is they go from light weight, in 2lbs increments and are soft, so you can take one in the face without breaking your nose.
The GG med balls will come in 10lbs, 15lbs and 20lbs sizes

Chris, thanks for the link to Strength Power Speed, it's appreciated.

Re: UK supplier for non-bounce D-ball

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Chris,

Thanks for the instructions. I would love to use a home-made med ball but I need one for a corporate gym and for Health & Safety and insurance purposes home-made equipment isn't allowed.

I checked out the Dynamax med ball in archived CF posts but yep I figured it wouldn't hold up to Slam Ball too.

Brian,

Please keep us posted on your testing on GG med balls. If they hold up you could have an order for 20 balls!
