2000 Meter Concept 2 Row Time - First Time

Well, I just got my Concept 2 Rower model D the other day and since today was a rest day I wanted to go in garage and work on drills and row a 2000 meter. I did 500 a couple of times but here are the results from my first 2000. I realized I was starting too fast with too many strokes per minute, so I slowed the strokes and focused on power, you can see what happened.

2:18.1 500m 25 s/m
2:13.5 1000m 27 s/m
2:09.1 1500m 24 s/m
2:02.7 2000m 24 s/m

8:43.4 2000m 2:10.8 25 s/m

I thought it interesting that my 500m splits got faster as I slowed my stroke rate and focused on the drive with my legs at the beginning. I know I could have gone a little harder and got a lower time, but I was really trying to work on form and basic power.

I sold my elliptic and bought this and I can say I LOVE rowing. I warm up as well each morning with a couple of minutes rowing along with CFWU.

And on the 8th Day, God created the WOD.

Re: 2000 Meter Concept 2 Row Time - First Time

before i learn how to row correctly i had rowed a 1:34.4 500m, with very messy 'technique' and crazy high stroke rate of around 50stroke/min but due to not having the capacity to hold that effort it would slowly decrease down to a struggle to hold 28strokes/min.
now i can hold 25 to 27 s/min and do repeatable sub 1:38/500m.

Get on the Journal and have a read of the rowing articles and watch the video's on technique.

I have row'd 2000m once and did 8 minutes, since i was being lazy and pulled 1:40/500m then have a 20 second rest and then pull another 500m and repeated this till i completed 2000m since i didn't pace myself correctly and need to have little rests along the way.
