115 Royal Burpee Challenge

Did you know that burpees were named after a man? That man is Royal H. Burpee, and he lived and died in Easton, Pa., the hometown of CrossFit Advanced.

We will be honoring Dr. Burpee's 115th birthday with a 115 burpee challenge! We invite you to join us. Start Feb. 11 with a single burpee. Add a burpee to your workout every day until June 4, when we will do 115 burpees on the day that Royal H. Burpee was born! (His grandson still lives in Easton, we are inviting him to attend the festivities.)

Please see our event page on Facebook (pls see link below) for more information about Dr. Burpee, and sign up to join in the burpee fun! Please post your burpee pictures and videos, too...we're hoping to collect burpee images from all over the world.

Thanks!
Meg

Meg-

Thanks for that! I just was asked where the word Burpee came from today by a student, and was going to google that tonight!

Re: 115 Royal Burpee Challenge

Hi Mark!

If you check out that Facebook event page, there's a post that includes a short bio on Dr. Burpee. He was a WWI veteran who served in the USO in WWII. He cooked up the burpee test as a military fitness test.

Please consider joining in the burpee challenge! We're trying to get pictures and videos from people involved all over the world.

Thanks so much!

Meg

I am going to give this my best. I am hoping that I will be able to make it. It's a third of a year, so we will have to see how it all shakes out. Starting with 1 tomorrow.

Re: 115 Royal Burpee Challenge

Burpees first thing in the morning today, hopped out of bed and knocked out 3 burpees and then into the kitchen for some breakfast. It was a good start to the day.

21 done...6649 to go...

I have convinced my wife, my brother-in-law, and a co-worker to do this with me. Hopefully we can all make it the distance.

Re: 115 Royal Burpee Challenge

I finished the 100 day burpee challenge about a year ago (same format as the 115 day program honoring Mr. Burpee). My only caution is to ensure you're at least moderately warmed up. Doing burpees straight out of bed, closing the door at the office and knocking out a quick 20 or 30, rolling off the couch at night (all of which I did) can increase risk of injury (at least for this older Crossfitter). Recommend some light stretching and warmup at a minimum. Good luck to all.

Re: 115 Royal Burpee Challenge

The lower number ones (below 10) I was doing when I rolled out of bed. Now I am doing them at the end of my metcon so I am fully warm.

Question about the rules, tonight my metcon is 100 burpees for time, do I still need to to the 12 on top of that or can I count those as my burpees today? Either way I am cruisey.
