The slide show states that you should be explosive through the hips after the initial dead lift. Would that be similiar to the back to front hip movement that you use during kettleball swings?

Not exactly. I think Glassman recently wrote up a detailed analysis of the difference. Maybe someone else will remember where and when he wrote that.
