Smoke Eaters Log

Ive decided to start a new log becuase in essance, Im starting everything over again.

Ive spent the last 3-4 years bouncing around. Ive done Crossfit, CFE, 5/3/1 and even some bodybuilding splits. Most recently I completed Starting Strength which shot my Squat up to 320x5 which was a long time goal of mine.

What have I learnt in the process? Lfes about balance which Ive had none of. In these years Ive put my fitness before my friends, family and even job at times. Ive overtrained, had injuries and Ive got the scars and memories to show. Ive gotten wrapped up in numbers playing with diets. The harsh reality is that I think Ive had exercise bulimia to a certain degree and its time to stop it before I ruin anything else.

I seriously think this is an issue that alot of crossfiters deal with. As I lurk and read logs sometimes, it seems to be an all to scary reality. Were preached to Zone, go Paleo, count everything, get shredded, etc..What isnt talked about is what you miss out on when your not eating with your family or friends, what you miss being out in those social situations having fun.

The reality is that no one outside of this website or your gym gives a **** about your Fran time, what you Squat, what your time on the last wod was. They care about how good of a friend, boyfriend, brother or son you are and what you give back in those roles. Being on this board or being at your local box are a great way to share a common interest with like minded people which is still important in life. But you cant get it confused with your daily roles you play out side of this lifestyle.

So what am I going to do?

- Get the balance back.
- Spend more time with the people that are important to me in my life.
- No backing out of social situations
- Stop following crazy hybrid progams for a bit
- Eat healthy. I eat unmeasured Paleo now, but I dont follow anything for my dinners at the Firehall. Brotherhood is more important than bodyfat.

Im fortunate to have a box that just opened up in my town which Im going to go to exclusively. Im doing the wods they program and Im going to see where it takes me. Im logging things on here to support fellow CF'ers and keep track of progess which is important.

First Metcon in almost two months. Felt like death! Good to be back at it. Lifting in an actually CF gym makes a world of difference. I cant describe the feeling.

Rest 5 mins

5 rounds for time:

- 200m Run

- 200m Row

Fun day. Strength was good for Squats. Didnt go for a 320x5 Squat becuase I wanted to hit the Metcon with some intensity.

Metcon destroyed me. No cardio in a month had me seeing little baby jesus. There was no part of the wod that you could really hold back and catch your breath. Just pure hell. Loved it.

Re: Smoke Eaters Log

Wednesday

With a continuously running clock do one pull-up the first minute, two pull-ups the second minute, three pull-ups the third minute... continuing as long as you are able.

Use as many sets each minute as needed.

8 rounds plus 4 pull ups. All deadhang

Rest 5 mins.

As many rounds as possible in 20 minutes.

Hang Cleans #95/65 - 5 reps

Push Press #95/65 - 7 reps

Pushups - 10 reps

18 rounds + 5HPC + 4 PP

Comments

Hard to type right now. Being able to drop the wieghts as needed during the workout helped alot. God I love bumper plates. Goal is to hit 20 rounds if we do this again. Could have done it if I didnt mess around so much.

Saturday

@ Crossfit Newmarket Central

Fran: 4:03 (PR)

Comments

Really need to learn how to kip. Doing deadhangs killed my arms towards the end and I just stared at the bar. Thrusters were all unbroken and easy.

Stayed around afterwards and did about 100 extra pullups working on kipping. Started to get it towards the end. I need to master kips and butterflys ASAP!

Rest 5 mins

Time: 2:01

Rest 5 mins

Annie: 50/40/30/20/10 of DU's/Situps

Comments

Overheads Squats were fun. Could have propbably done, 185/195ish but I really focused on form and sitting back into my heels.

Qualifier wod went well. Would have placed me well at regionals.

Annie sucked. My core was smoked from all of the Ovehead Squatting. Ive never done situps so slow lol

Re: Smoke Eaters Log

Wednesday

@ the Firehall

1000m row in 3:34 @ 90% effort.

Ran 5 mins easy then did Tabata run at 10mph/10% incline.

1000m row cool down easy.

Comments

Got a good little sweat on at work. Tabatas were sweet. Really started to feel them towards the 7th/8th round. Metcon/Lungs are starting to come back after doing SS which feels kinda good.

Runing a little low on sleep today. Lots of calls last night and I was driving the pump. Driving the Bronto on Saturday.

Doing Elizabeth at Crossfit Newmarket Central in about an hour. First time doing her. Nervous/Excited!
