Re: Workout in the rain?

I love working out in the rain. It makes you feel like a true spartan warrior when you train in the rain. My buddy used to do hill sprints after work but would skip on days it rained. I told him to try it when it rains its a little dangerous but it really makes you feel like a warrior.

Re: Workout in the rain?

First - almost a perfect name!

Second - I totally love working in the rain. I did Murph in the rains from hurricane Fay, we got 2-3 inches during the time we were working out.

Re: Workout in the rain?

Melting into a blob is a significant possibility when working out in the rain, and that could lead to more serious problems, like rounded-back deadlifts.

Re: Workout in the rain?

Make sure you dry off your equipment...
my oly bar has a couple of rust spots on account of that.
Just note your time as a consideration, say when running in the snow, as it'll add some time to the runs.
It certainly does add to the hard-core-ness factor of it all...
That is, everyone is running inside to get away from the water, sit in front of the tv, and there you are, steaming away in rain. I do a lot of WODs outside, and I do like the steaming associated with being outside when it is a little cold. Looks like I'm smoking (whole body smoke). I find it's also easier to train when it's a little cool as your not struggling to keep from overheating.
I was doing my runs in -20C (-28 with wind chill) for the 800m x 4 WOD the other day. (rests inside for the first 2 rounds).
If you keep up the outside WODs, you have a much better sense of your clothing requirements for various WODs (metcon vs ME) once it gets colder/wetter. You also know what you're capable of, that is you're ready for race day if you've been the one out there running in the rain everyday. If you're hitting an outside WOD for the first time in say a Canadian winter (props to other 'northern' areas in USA and Europe) you gotta take it easy...
Like I said, people will talk about the hard-core dude in the rain though...and that isn't a bad thing.
