Zone Perfect Bar Recall - peanut issue

I don't eat them - I think they're just well-marketed candy bars - but for those of you who do, you may want to check out the recall info found here (wfs)

http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/abbott01_09.html

excerpt:
Quote:
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 19, 2009 -- Abbott Nutrition today announced that it is initiating a precautionary, voluntary recall of ZonePerfect® Chocolate Peanut Butter bars, ZonePerfect® Peanut Toffee bars and NutriPals™ Peanut Butter Chocolate bars in response to the widening recall involving peanut butter and peanut paste ingredients manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA was one of the peanut ingredient suppliers to the company.

Hey Sean, good catch. This recall also applies to many popular meal replacement, supplemant bars including Cliff Bars and Luna bars and many others with, i think, peanut butter in them. The stores here all have big notices up.

Called the number to get a refund for a box I just bought at Costco. After less than a minute on the phone a check is on the way for full refund. They said to throw them away.

Btw, they have no reports of anybody getting sick off these, as of yet.

Re: Zone Perfect Bar Recall - peanut issue

I use them on business trips when eating regularly is a real challenge.

I don't eat the peanut butter flavors though.

Thanks!

Re: Zone Perfect Bar Recall - peanut issue

I noticed today that LARABAR is also doing a voluntary recall of their Peanut Butter Cookie bars. (WFS) https://www.larabar.com/secure/index_.php These are a much better choice than Zone bars for "emergency snacks", as they are organic, unprocessed, soy, dairy and gluten free and contain no added sugar. Only ingredients are fruit and nuts. And they're delicious.
