I've been easing in to Crossfit after a couple years of bodyweight training, and have noted I have difficulting when the pullups are part of a circuit. For example, doing GTG sets, I can knock out 100-120 pullups in an evening, and on a good day can max at about 12-15 straight dead hangs. OTOH, if the workout requires a circuit of say thrusters/pushups/pullups , I struggle to get more than six reps per set (unless I cheat and go to a chinup grip), is that to be expected? On the other exercises, I can get respectable reps on most sets, but my biceps seem to run out of gas really quick.

Of course, if you are tiring out your body, the rest of your body is going to be tired as well both from CNS and muscle fatigue. The best exercise during your workouts will always be your first because your muscles and CNS are fresh.

With metcon workouts though you can train to the point where with continuous circuit sets you will not experience so much of a decrease in performance from set to set; however, you will still see an overall decrease in performance than if you were just doing that one exercise alone. This is to be expected.

Chinup(supinated) grip is not "cheating"

If the chin is over the bar its a pullup. Pronated, supinated, mixed, neutral.
