Just had my first Zone Meal
So i just started my zone routine: 5/5/1/5/1 = total of 17 blocks (medium male) and had my first zone dinner.... boy that was a lot of veggies.
I mixed some carrots, green peppers, mushrooms, roman lettuce, and grape tomatoes together and added in a can of tuna, and on the side i cooked up 3 scrambled eggs to meet the 5 blocks quotas. I'm not sure if it was psychological or not, but i didn't feel tired at all after eating such a big meal.... with all that veggies in one sitting, it certainly felt like a big meal, however, after 40 minutes or so, i felt like i could start eating again =D After this meal i think i know why people like broccolis so much.... it simply takes so much other veggies to equate the same amount of carbs that a few broccolis could provide. On the other hand, i think i will mix in a very little amount of rice (maybe 15g carbs worth) so i wont burn through all the veggies that quickly. |

the amount of Hg in tuna these days is horrendous. How can this still be recommended, I haven't a clue. Don't eat tuna!

Re: Just had my first Zone Meal
tuna - high levels of mercury. Some worry about it, some don't. The higher up the food chain the fish is the higher mercury levels it will contain. The common advice is not to eat it every day.
rice - isn't paleo as it's a grain. Grains are anti-nutrient. Isn't Zone favorable as is high GI. Instead you should get your carbs from fibrous vegetables such as broccoli as Michael said in his post. This will keep your blood sugar levels normal and not spike your insulin. |

Re: Just had my first Zone Meal
Yes the mercury levels are too high for daily consumption. Tuna that is caught and used to eat has been in the ocean for very long periods of time which allows for their bodies to have mercury leak into their body. Its not that if you eat tuna you are going to die. But the funny things that mercury do to your brain and levels in Tuna make me very aware of the amount of Tuna I eat each week. Only once or twice for me and I'm trying to change that to less!
