Fight Gone Bad - Rowing Substitution?

I attempted to search the forum, but couldn't find the answer.

I know that SDHP are the standard sub for rowing events, but in this FGB is there another substitution for the rowing? Or just do the SDHP twice in each round?

The engineer in me drills down the 5-WHYs and says that at the root I need to get a C2, but in the interim, any help would be appreciated.

I think I'll just run on a treadmill in place of the rower. Do a full-out sprint for the 1 minute.

And yes, I too need a C2..

As per this thread I will be subbing burpees, sounds like KB swings might be a good Big box option too

Good Luck!:stir:

Re: Fight Gone Bad - Rowing Substitution?

Burpees and swings are a nice idea. Sprints aren't bad either, but the questions of scoring and pacing make it somewhat unappealing.

SDHPs are good but obviously doing them twice is somewhat missing the point.

Re: Fight Gone Bad - Rowing Substitution?

What about a substitute for box jumps? The gym where I work out has everything but boxes to do jumps, or anything of the like.

I searched the forums and couldn't find anything on the topic.

Thanks

I had people doing single under 5 reps equals 1 pt.... that is a slightly light RX from the scores ive seen....
we had double unders as 1 point aswell

Maybe tuck jumps?

Dave -- I think double unders are better, IF the athlete can do them okay. If not it's a bit of a wash unless you really want to force people to nail that skill for some reason.

Re: Fight Gone Bad - Rowing Substitution?

yea i would say tuck jumps and doubles would be the best.... but its can be hard to quantify a good tuck jump to a fatigued athlete.... so the single unders are just a good lung burner

i subbed burpees for the rowing machine today and it definetly kicked my a##! i think it will lower your score in comparison but jsut go all out and you'll get what you need from the workout.

Re: Fight Gone Bad - Rowing Substitution?

I threw this in another thread yesterday, but might as well add it here too.

I saw on the main site yesterday somebody say that Jumping Pull-ups are a possible sub for rowing. I did them in my FGB and they can do a decent job of mimicking the leg push and arm pull that is in rowing. The cycle time is probably way faster than the calorie counter would be so they aren't really comparable for total purposes, but I think they're a good sub... which usually means I'm cursing about having to do them during the workout.
