Re: Chiro - worth it or not?

I've been told there are 2 types of chiros. The good ones are experts at various PT, massage, and joint manipulation techniques to relieve musculo-skeletal discomfort and related ergonomic issues. The good ones recognize their limitations and do not ascribe healing powers to chiropractic which are not backed up by hard science. A good chiro would not hesitate to say "you need to go see a real medical doctor for that."

The bad ones ascribe to pseudo-scientific theories which claim that almost all illnesses can be attributed to skeletal misalignment, and that chiropractic and homeopathic treatments can cure serious diseases better than modern medical treatment. If you find one that starts talking about how subluxations cause cancer and heart disease, run away swiftly.

Re: Chiro - worth it or not?

Perfect dileneation of the profession. There are "straights" who ascribe to the all powerful adjusment all breadth of healing powers. Then there are "mixers" who utilize PT rehab protocols, manipulations of the spine and adjacent extremities, soft tissue techniques (ART or Graston, both are excellent, I practice both), and co-manage patients with MDs. Anytime somoeone is looking for a case fee upfront, be EXTREMELY hesitant. Most conditions that can be treated by chiro care are usually responsive in the first 2-4 weeks and you should be AT LEAST 50% better by week 4. Otherwise, get advanced imaging, another opinion, etc.
