I saw an orthopedic surgeon yesterday. Said I need to have an MRI done on my shoulder and feels it's the rotator cuff.
So, I'm going to see another specialist (this one referred me to the new one) and also schedule an MRI.
NO clue. I have no clue how I hurt it, there was no twinge of pain, nada, but it did start hurting after volleyball. It's been six months, and increasingly worse. I'm now popping painkillers morning and night (yes prescribed) to keep the pain under control.
Other than the, "don't use it" prescription, any ideas how to keep the pain under control?

I am terribly sorry to hear about your affliction! Having had my own share of injuries through the years I know what it's like to have the desire to participate, yet not the healthy body.
I am sure that you have iced the region three times per day for up to 30 min. If not start there, as certain areas of the body heal slowly because of a lack of blood flow. I would also try a good message threapist as you may have built up scar tissue from continuing to use it when it first became injured.
If there is no swelling (or the swelling has subsided) I would try some rotator cuff therapy. There is a bar that can be purchased online for such therapy. I have also found that holding a 5lb. dumbbell in the hand of the injured shoulder, holding the shoulder and arm motionless and then raising just the lower arm (hand and forearm), will also help.
As far as pain control, I recommend as many natural anti-inflammatorys as possible, over drugs. I have had some success using natural substances such as, holy basil-green tea-ginger-tummeric and rosemary.
One of the best drugs to date to countrer inflammation is Celebrex. It works by knocking out the pro-inflammatory cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme. Of course, like all drugs there are side effects, such drugs can have a disasterous effect on the Liver and stomach lining of some people.
I would rather see injured athletes use Advil (over Tylenol) because there seem to be less side effects in the long run.
Don't let this injury get you down. Work around the injury. That may seem difficult right now, but if you give it some thought you will see that it can be done! The best to you, and if there is anything that I can do to help do not hesitate to ask!
