How to strengthen and harden your mentality?

This is more for curiousity purposes, but what do you do for your mentality?

Do any people out there do anything in particular to strengthen that mental aspect of their training? Waking up early to go meditate? Freezing cold showers every day?

Just interested in what others do in order to increase their psychological durability.

I try to laugh quietly at various times in WODs, especially when I'm having a rough time and tempted to think negatively. Also, have fun; enjoy the heightened focus and body awareness that different forms of intensity bring.

Push yourself past whatever you thought you ever could have done. That'll harden you up a bit.

Experiencing the pain that comes from workouts. Physical pain is the equivalent of mental pain: they are one in the same.

Do more things. Your can only physically train so much. Read more, learn to play an instrument, or learn to formally dance (ballroom is not effeminate). Become more well rounded. Humans are capable of far greater things than doing Fran in the freezing rain at 0300hrs.

Don't get used to torturing yourself, but once in a while is fun. 12 hour night walks around a track.

Go on a humanitarian aid trip and see how others live. They are harder than you and I, and they may have no clue what a barbell is.

Watching others endure pain tends to encourage my tolerance for it.
