Starting For newcomers to the CrossFit methodology

I feel like a kid in a candy store knowing you sharp folks are out there to answer some questions I have as a newbie.

Not to be greedy, I'll start with just one: I saw a WOD that specified "five minutes" of a particular lifting excercise. Does that mean five non-stop minutes? Or as many reps as you can pull off in five minutes with rests between sets? Or what.

It means as many reps as you can do in five minutes. It is highly likely that you will have to break up the sets. Time/rep management is part of the challenge.
