I'm looking for some suggestions for a pre-workout meal. I usually have a bowl of oatmeal about an hour prior to workin out, but recently it hasnt been helping me sustain energy. If anyone can throw some ideas at me I would really appreciate it.

some Almond Butter...straight...1hr-45min prior works for me....or small protein shake with flax oil...mostly fats and protein. Or Coffee with cream.

Most crossfitters, myself included prefer to work out on an empty stomach (exception being coffee and water). If you're looking to lose bodyfat, this makes sense as your body has no food to grab for energy so instead taps into bodyfat stores for ATP. And believe it or not, my energy levels increased since I started avoiding calories prior to my workout

Keep in mind there is a short adjustment period before this happens.

I need some advice on carb loading prior to an event. On Sept 23rd I'll be rowing my first rowing marathon, 47,195 meters (equivalent to 26.2 miles) if I keep to pace I'll be done in just under 3.5 hrs. My plan is to taper @one week in advance, hydrate like a mad woman, and carbo load. My problem is that I have a sensitivety to grains and can't handle much in one day. Any suggestions? Also this will be my first athletic event that I will have to take in calories during the event, any suggestions for energy boosting drinks, bars etc.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you are looking to carb load and grains aren't an option I would look into grapes or sweet potatoes. Bananas might also be a viable option.
