I seem to remember being told that I shouldn't hang rings from a cantilevered pull-up bar, does anyone know if that's right?

I don't want to order rings and then have nowhere to hang them.

Duncan,
Why couldn't you hang them on a canted bar? I'm in the Middle East, and even over here I've found places to hang my rings-it just takes a little imagination and occasionally some jury rigging. Order the rings-the workout you get from doing pullups and dips on rings is amazingly different than doing those exercises on fixed stations.

As long as the cantilever is strong enough it should be fine. You're not planning on swinging on these rings are you? Adding rings to the bar won't add any additional downward load than you would get on the bar by itself (again, unless you are swinging on the rings)

I just dropped 2x 1/2" eyebolts though a structural beam (2 x 2"x8") over my garage ceiling.

It only took about 10 minutes, but I did have to buy a 12" long 1/2" drill bit for 15 bucks.

Big flat washers on the top and bottom with 2 nuts to lock off.

50 centimeters apart (19.7").

Just a thought if your looking for somewhere else to hang them.

No swinging intended, Roger. Thanks for the advice, I'll go ahead and order a set.
