As I mentioned in another thread i'm now THE TRAINER at the local health club and in the two weeks i've been working there i've seen.

1. curls in the squat rack with 5kg on each side of the bar

2. two guys who were doing MOTHERF#$KING arms day complete with gloves, partial bicep curls with the pump bars and gatorade.

3. a guy half squatting 40kg with 2 inch blocks under his heels

4. crunches, crunches, crunches

5. Bad lat pulldowns, pec dec, leg extensions, tricep extensions galore.

6. No one doing chinups

Yesterday I scared some young guys by having one of my clients do a version of 3 bars of death. The pair were warming up with bicep curls and tricep extensions and my client is swearing, sweating and trembling as he blasts out the reps.

I could almost hear them thinking "dude what does that work?"

On the upside I can use the gym and its three olympic bars and 300kg of plates for my own workouts.

Full depth front squats anyone?

Don... that's freakin' awesome. I would love to work at a place like that. Wreaking havoc there gives a whole new meaning to "Practice Chaos..."

The gym I used to belong to didn't have escalators, but they did have valet parking. It was funny to watch the cars drive around the parking lot looking for a closer parking space.

Don, what gym are you working at in Sydney? I know that any of the gyms I used to train in back home would have flipped with pretty much any CF style workouts. Jeez, used to get people staring by just doing full range chins. 3 bars of death, I love it!!

cheers, kempie

Chris the gym is called "refresh" and it is really a very nice clean, north shore type place.

For example the power rack doesn't have rubber mats under it, it's got carpet!

In the past week i've had people doing versions of FGB, Three bars, rower + thruster wods, run plus pullups and more.

I've even got the green light to use kettlebells with my PT clients and the gym owner is having a session with me soon.

I think as long as i don't kill anyone he will be fine with what i do.

Unfortunately the ceilings are too low to ask him to install a rope or rings and dropping max oly lifts is a NO NO

Still i'll be seeing how far i can push it before i get comments.

Suggestions of which WODs to try are appreciated :proud:

Sounds like a really open minded owner, but then results really are the best argument aren't they! Used to train in a lot of the inner city gyms, before i got into PT myself and in many places their version of extreme was needing two people to spot their 8 rep max bench.

For sheer WTF comments from normal gym-goers anything involving HSPU's rock. Also unpowered treadmill sprints are another head turner, especially when you crank it up faster than most people are skipping along with the power on. But really, whatever you have people doing it will be the intensity that will spin people out.

Have fun mate, sounds like a blast.

Cheers, kempie

My Fitness Center manager (new) seemed open to the idea of a CrossFit-style class.

"That CrossFit stuff is really helpin' you out, Laura." (after I did an unassisted kipped pull up - only one - and an unassisted parallel-depth dip)

Now, I just gotta get certifited....September's comin'...
