Re: Squat Form - Starting Strength

Also he says if you're front squatting, its almost exactly the same as high bar back squat so you may as well front squat.

FWIW, people who actually coach Olympic lifters disagree pretty strongly with that view.

Re: Squat Form - Starting Strength

You are squatting high-bar, driving the hips back and the knees forward, not quite to parallel.

Re: Squat Form - Starting Strength

Thanks everyone for chiming in, I was at 210 today and have been getting the bar a little lower and focusing more on the squat depth.

Guys, Rip has been an Olympic weightlifting coach for a long time.

He has run lots and lots of USAW certs and is the LWC President for North Texas.

Just to be clear.

Re: Squat Form - Starting Strength

Also, don't use a med ball to judge depth on your squats or I will hurt you.

And, your bar position is not low bar.

And lots of other Olympic weightlifting coaches disagree with him about the low bar squat.

Re: Squat Form - Starting Strength

The huge majority of world class olympic lifters all high bar. But Olympic lifting is highly specialized.

Re: Squat Form - Starting Strength

To be honest I feel more comfortable with the bar slightly higher. Of course that could be because I'm used to it there. Not saying it's right or wrong.

Oh, I know that. So does he.

I am just pointing out that he has been a Real Weightlifting Coach for a long time, and people who don't realize that haven't read much of what he has written, haven't spent a lot of time on his forums, and don't hang out with him enough.
