Damn BodyBlasters

So I had 30 mins tonight to do a workout as I had to rush home from work to catch a Soccer Game (England -v- Spain) and decided to give the 'race to 100 bodyblasters a go' since I've never even heard of such exercise until I stumbbled across this great site. It may have been the friction or that the pull up bar was to high or a combo of the two, but just as I jumped up to my 76th rep, I felt rip in my hand and there it was...... a huge flap of skin danggling off my hand. Now I know I aint a leper, so WTF is going on?

Has anyone experienced the same? And before you ask, I dont have lil pretty manicured desk job hands, I lift iron daily.

-Rob

Re: Damn BodyBlasters

Yep, I've torn a callous and it's not fun. I did it doing a WOD that involved alot of pull-ups but I forget the layout of it. It was not that big, but half the callous was ripped and I was bleeding a good amount. I finished the workout, but man it sucked. I couldn't do any pulling moves for a week after that. Now I make sure to trim my callouses so that they don't get huge and rip.

Don't grip the bar in the meat of your hand for pulling motions... (wfs)

........Or eat salt and vinegar chips! Sounds like the same sort of thing. I had to jump about 2 ft to the pull up bar, maybe that was something to do with it. I wont be demoing that to anybody in a hurry, I'd have a lawsuit up my ***!

Re: Damn BodyBlasters

rips are common with CrossFit when callus' are not managed well (and even sometimes when they are), and when the bar is gripped incorrectly (already addressed with the excellent link above).

For information on maintaining your callus' properly to avoid rips check out the thread below. Enjoy!

I had to jump a couple feet as well, so maybe...

I saw that video and it's very useful. However I didn't grip the bar with the meat of my hand. I pretty much always grip it with all five fingers above the bar for pull-ups and the bar rests on the callouses. My callouses were huge FYI, like I never trimmed them down or anything, so being ignorant about that fact is probably what caused the rip.

Re: Damn BodyBlasters

Get some NuSkin to put on it... good times

But only right after it rips, then the "effect" isn't quite the same

And therein lies the problem. I have never once had a tear, and it's because I do callous management twice a week. About 5-10 minutes after I shower I sand down my callouses with a pumice stone. That's it. It takes about 2 minutes twice a week.
