Re: 6 foot, 172 pounds... gain weight before Xfit?

^^^^
I second this. You might also want to try something like carb cutoffs, if you find you are putting on more fat then muscle, where you'd cut out carbs after supper, only have protein/fat combo meals has done wonders with me in the past and LOTS of Dante's trainees.

Re: 6 foot, 172 pounds... gain weight before Xfit?

Haven't read through the thread yet but this is just my opinion:

Do crossfit. If it's what you want, if your goal is better overall fitness, just get started with the WODs. Your strength will increase plenty, maybe not as much as if you did a 5x5 program. But then your endurance wouldn't improve like it would if you had just done xfit from the start. If your goal is to get big and strong, do one of those programs. But there's no strength or size "prerequisite" to start crossfitting

Drink the kool aid and start wodding!

Fat shouldn't be an issue, go read 70sbig.com (WFS).

at 6'0 and 172 you are like me (6'1" 180), getting stronger is more important than getting fitter, at least to me. The more muscle you have (fat does come too), the safer you will be and the easier time you will have loosing it. And you should take the time to learn the lifts before trying to do them fast and for time.

And grow men weigh 200 lbs, according to Rip!

By the way, I am doing SS and GOMAD. I am very weak, thus I have no valid opinions. I just tried to summarize what I have learned from 70sBig.

McDoubles are incredible, 5 for $5.41. A very good meal
