Re: Crossfit for weight loss

I started about the same build.

I was about 5"11 and teadering at around 188-190 pounds.

3 Months of zone and crossfit later I'm down to 172 pounds and considerably leaner across the board. I'm also much stronger.....

I've been cheating a little too much lately with Christmas Parties but overall my wife can't believe it. I've dropped body fat in all the places I wanted to drop it.

Arrow Re: Crossfit for weight loss

I started CrossFit October 27th, 2008 at 217 Pounds and Today I'm 199.6...

I'm DOWN 18 Pounds in 41 Days....

That's JUST CROSSFIT nothing else!
Each week I took 2 classes...
2 weeks ago I bumped it up to 3x a week!

My Food plan has been nothing like paleo or zone I've just ate 1300 calories each day...

Starting this week I plan to start Paleo but I'm clueless as to where to begin!

I have 79 Pounds to go!

Any advice is welcomed!!!

Re: Crossfit for weight loss

It looks like the CF diet suggestions are going to be a pretty radical change for you. Go to the sites and read, read, read. Maybe get "Enter the Zone" or one of Sears' other books.

They are all going to reccomend the same basic stuff...
get away from the grains (rice, bread, pasta)
cut out the sugar(BBQ sauce, flavored yogurt)
lots of protein(lean but not fanatically so)
lots of vegetables and moderate fruit(mainly right after working out)
Good amounts of healthy fat(Fish oil, avocado, nuts)

Robb and Mike OD will dramatically change the way you think about and consume food.

Enjoy the journey.

I think if you went full zone and dumped the grains, you'll speed up things tremendously.

Re: Crossfit for weight loss

Gayle, first of all, congratulations on your awesome progress!

If you want to move towards a more paleo style diet, let's try this...I am going to keep the spirit of your meals intact but combine a couple of them and work towards LOTS more fruit/veggies, less grains, zero 'fake' ingredients (like in "light" salad dressing) more protein, and some more good fat. I am keeping dairy because I sure do...

Meal 1:
Two whole eggs w/spinach, apple

Snack:
4 almonds, pear, string cheese

Meal 2:
Grilled chicken on a bed of spinach/mixed greens with additional veggies mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, peppers, whatever), sunflower seeds, olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing

Snack:
celery w/ a little almond butter

Meal 3:
Beef with steamed broccoli, half of a small sweet potato, salad with oil/vinegar

No artificial sweeteners or "light ingredients" and more tasty meals!

DAY TWO....
Meal 1
Two eggs w/spinach, fruit of your choice

Snack
unsweetened yogurt with fruit

Meal 2
Grilled chicken salad with green chiles, seeds/nuts, veggies, oil and vinegar

Snack
3 walnuts, orange

Meal 3
salmon, half sweet potato, and salad with caesar dressing (caesar is SUPER easy to make: olive oil, lemon juice, anchovies (so good for you), dijon mustard, ground pepper, parmesan). YUM and NO BAD FAKE STUFF, make a bunch in the food processor and store it in the fridge.

Good luck, and keep us posted, whatever you decide. Also...with more fat (eggs, olive oil, nuts) you might not feel the need to eat all the snacks. If you aren't hungry, don't eat them! If one morning you want to skip breakfast...it's fine, because you know you will be eating a healthy, well rounded snack before too long anyways.

Re: Crossfit for weight loss

To get leaner you should eat less cabs and eat more protein and much more good fat.

It is that simple.

Re: Crossfit for weight loss

Nice adjustments Jesse...

I'm back to about 90% wheat free, and man do I feel soooo much better.
No inflammation, no weird allergic rhinitis, better mental game, energy, the whole shebang!
