I was looking for an opinion on buying a rower and whether it was worth shopping for a used one. I can't find anything locally but the ones on Ebay seem to be selling for around $600. They are all Model Cs and in decent shape from what I can tell. A new Model D as you know is $900. Is the model D that much different or worth splurging on and/or is it less risky to just buy a new rather than used rower?

The new ones are quiter and prettier. Other than that, I'm not sure there is much difference. In fact, I've heard that some people prefer the older model as they find the computer easier to use.

I was in the same boat as you. The model D had just come out and I checked Ebay for someone selling a model C near my hometown (no shipping). Found it and I have been more than happy with the model C. Most individuals who buy exercise equipment use it for a month and then stop using it. The Concept 2 is such a good piece of equipment they stand up to health club abuse and last for years. There is a total distance rowed function on the moniter so you could get a very good idea how often the machine was used. Go to the web site and print up all of the manuals. Bottom line, unless you have $900 laying around buy used.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep looking for a used one. I had heard the model D was quiter although I will be using it in my garage so it doesn't really matter. Hopefully something will show up here in Austin.

Thanks

I'm getting close to enough $$ for one, but I've wanted one for years, something usually happens to derail my plans...

Anyway, I don't know if I feel comfortable spending that much on a used item, sight unseen. Most people are honest, but it only takes one. A messed up monitor would end up costing more than the complete purchase of a new. Just something to think about...

I just bought a used model C in perfect condition for $450. Found it in the local classifieds. Just had to keep checking. Took about 2 months.

you could try craigslist.com if there is one for your area - that way you can see and try before you by -
