Police Week Memorial Workout - May 10-16, 2009

Putting together a workout that memorializes police officers, deputies, agents, and members who have been killed in the line of duty. Participants are asked to perform a modified/scaled RANDY, in memory of a specific fallen officer.

Police Week Memorial Workout (WFS)

The workout is to be done during Police Week (May 10-16th, 2009). Any and all CrossFitters and affiliates can participate on their own "on your honor" and send or post your scores (please see blog post to see what info we're requesting).

Thanks everyone for your support and participation!!

I just put it on my calendar. I will be remembering Officer Michael Briggs of the Manchester (NH) Policy Department, killed in the line of duty in fall of 2006.

Re: Police Week Memorial Workout - May 10-16, 2009

Set for Friday May 15th, at CrossFit DuPage, (WFS) 1600-1900 hours.

If you cannot make it to CF DuPage gym on the Friday, make it there any day that week during classtime. Check the CF DuPage site for hours.

If you do not know a fallen police officer to do this honor of, find one on the Officer Down Memorial Page WFS.

I'll be doing this in honor of Officer Chuck Cassidy (Philadelphia Police), who was murdered as he unknowingly walked in on a robbery in progress on November 3, 2007.

Re: Police Week Memorial Workout - May 10-16, 2009

I'll be doing this workout with a 50 lb sandbag in honor of Officer Amy Donovan of the Austin Police Department, EOW 31 Oct. 2004. She left a successful career in advertising to become a police officer, because she wanted to do something that mattered. Then after only 5 months on duty she was accidentally struck by a police cruiser during a foot chase. I had only been engaged to my future husband, an Austin Police Officer, for a few months when she died. Seeing her husband and four young children at her funeral really affected me. That's when I knew that being a police officer's wife was going to mean finding strength when you are at your weakest. I'm doing this workout for Officer Donovan because she gave up everything to do something that really mattered.

Completed this with 75 push jerks in honor of Officers Kelly, Mayhle, and Sciullo all of whom were killed April 4th in Stanton Heights, Pittsburgh. I also would like to honor Officer McManaway and Officer Jones who were both injured in the same shooting.

Re: Police Week Memorial Workout - May 10-16, 2009

I'm out of town right now, so I had to change my plan on this one. Didn't bring my sandbag. Completed this workout with double kettlebells (a 14 kg and a 16kg) performing double cleans and presses, with a few double snatches thrown in. Finished in 24:36 had to keep stopping to away sweat since I had no chalk available.

Workout in honor of Officer Amy Donovan, Austin Police Department,
EOW 31 October 2004

CrossFit NRV participated, having 9 athletes doing the workout. We invited local PDs, but no one came.
