400mg of resveratrol/kg of bodyweight/per day=almost 31 grams for a 175 lb. person ([175/2.28]*400 = 30,702mg).

Resveratrol is marketed in capsules. I picked one product at random, from NSI. Each cap has 3 materials, one of which is 37mg of resveratrol. A $16 bottle of 120 caps, then, has 4440 mg for a unit cost of $0.004/mg ($15.99/[37*120] = $0.0036). To get 400mg/kg the 175 lb. person would have to take 830 capsules costing $123 each day (30,702/37 = 829.8; 30,702*$0.004 = $122.81).

A company called Longevinex says that only their super-expensive manufacturing and containerizing process preserves a significantly available quantity of resveratrol. They say each capsule has 40mg of “trans resveratrol.” If you believe them, you can get 30 caps for $35 or a unit cost of $0.030/mg. At 400mg/kg, this is $921/day or $336,184/year.

Or you could drink hundreds of glasses of wine per day....sounds better than 830 capsules per day.

Kevin,
you're about to get blasted about the "rules" of link posting. You'd think a "senior member" with over 600 posts would know better. sheesh.:carton:

Actually, Kevin (who has already received the dreaded link-warning once) gets a B+ on this one, since the rules are:

1. Include the subject of the link in the message text.
2. Indicate if it's not work safe/family friendly in the message title.
3. Provide a sentence or two that summarizes if the subject is not clearly explanatory.

His subject is clear; he didn't say it wasn't safe (so must be it is, or he'll be doing Tabata HSPU, LOL) and while it makes for a much better post if there's a summary, his title pretty well covers it.

One conflict I have not seen explicated is that one the one hand, researchers say that the red-wine-drinking cultures have lower rates of bad stuff because of something in red wine. Yet other researchers point out that to get enough resveratrol, you'd need to drink gallons of red wine each day. Perhaps there is a yet-undiscovered substance in red wine that is effective at very low doses, or perhaps one group of researchers is dueling with blanks. All this study vs. study talk wears me out. I stick to the diet of champions: really fresh twinkies and really pure crack.

Spotted! Yes, you're right. I have a desk job and check the site often during the day. I try to contribute where I can help which means less in fitness and more in injuries & medical. From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.
