i've been doing crossfit for 18 months now and used to post my times regularly for the WOD.
Now it seems that the comments area of the WOD is choked with inane questions or irrelavent comments. Take Yesterday (7-13-07) the first 10 posts are a waste of space.

Yes the video is sweet it usually is that's why they post it....

No we don't do bench press often, there is a reason....

1-1-1-1-1-1-1 reps means seven sets of single reps....

If you'll look closely the WOD page it does not say to post questions/ stupid complaints / workouts unrelated to the WOD / or anything else in the comments area it asks for times or weights.

Please use the message board for questions/ comments and leave the comments section of the WOD for weights and/or times.

with 300+ people posting unrelated stuff it's getting absurd.

Sorry for the rant....

Its a blog. What do you expect? People to not discuss their times and what they think about the WOD and videos? To not answer questions?

In communities people discuss things. That is called being social.

So I will politely disagree with you.

You realize this message (posted in the forums) is probably not reaching your target audience, don't you?

And, arguably, it belongs in "Community" . . . moving it there.

To tell the truth, I can't say that I actually want all those comments on the message board, either. Like George, I think it's a blog, and it's intended to capture the quick hits and thoughts that people had specific to that day's main page . . . including reactions to the videos, questions that come to mind when they see the workout, whatever.

I do agree that we sometimes see questions from beginners that would get more focus and more/better answers if they were posted over here on the discussion boards, but even on the main page comments, most quetions get answered (just harder to find the answers).

how do you suggest stopping people from posting inane comments, or beginners from asking stupid questions?

it's the's unstoppable, inescapable. it's an all or nothing gig, you know? you just have to roll with it, ignore the stuff you don't want, and get the most out of it you can.

one suggestion, regarding ME days, would be to post a small description of what an ME day is.

Bench Press 1-1-1-1-1-1-1

Use as much weight as you can handle for 1 rep, and as much rest as you need between each set.

That's a part of "community." Just my two cents.

I just smile and hope "the bloggers" don't find the message boards that contain over 125,000 great informative posts, along with great solid people, that if you bumped into them at a cert, they would feel like old friends.
